explanation
The scarf is said to have originated from a piece of cloth that northern peoples wrapped around their necks to keep warm.
It first came to be called a "scarf" in 16th century England, and was originally worn by ladies of the nobility to protect themselves from the sun and the cold.
During the reign of Louis XIV, it developed into an ornament worn around the necks of noble gentlemen, and in the 19th century it began to play the role it has today as a fashion accessory.
This is an antique scarf made around the 1920s.
The tasteful hand-stamped pattern is combined with exquisitely subdued colors and a delicate luster that develops over time, giving the piece an overall chic and subdued feel.
It can be worn as the focal point of a simple outfit like a T-shirt, or paired with a delicate dress for an elegant look, making it versatile for a wide range of styles.
This is a very valuable antique piece that was passed down to me by a lovely lady in England.
